Some people still have a sour taste in their mouth from how the 2023 World Cup went, but no one can deny that this team has the potential to capture the gold this summer. Will Sophia Smith, Lindsay Horan, Naomi Girma, Rose Lavelle and others get the job done?

The USWNT is ready to make noise at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Head coach Emma Hayes is ready to get things rolling, and she's got to feel confident after some strong showings in friendlies of late. Despite drawing 0-0 with Costa Rica earlier this week, the red, white and blue dominated play.

Last Saturday, the USA hosted Mexico at Red Bull Arena and they looked downright electric over their main rivals. The U.S. had countless opportunities to score and they were able to find the back of the net in the second half for a 1-0 win.

That goal came from Smith, who is one of the best finishers on the team. She received a brilliant pass inside of the box, made a quick move and then fired off an incredible strike into the back of the net.

As you might have been able to guess, Hayes was quite happy about the performance. Now, the USA will keep on practicing and looking to improve ahead of its matchup with Zambia on July 25.

"If we use (the Concacaf Gold Cup) as a reference point, I think it's fair to say this game was much more measured, much more controlled," Hayes said after the win over Mexico. "We limited them to very little, so it's a step in the right direction."

After the showdown with Zambia, Hayes' team will take on Germany on July 28 and then the squad will close out group play against Australia on July 31. That game against Australia very well could determine who wins the group.

Ahead of this tournament, the USA has won the women's soccer gold medal four times, last doing so in 2012. Will Hayes and Co. take care of business over in France? We sure hope so and the talent is there to make it happen!
