During the 2018-19 EPL season, Mane scored 22 goals in 32 matches. In 19 games this season, he has 11 goals. Liverpool is currently No. 1 in the standings with 58 points, 13 ahead of second-place Leicester City. Mane has been a major reason why.
"I'm really happy and proud to win this," a humble Mane said after winning the award. "Football is my job, I love it."
The newest honor sure is a long time coming for Mane. After finishing in third place in the race for African Player of the Year in 2016, he finished in second place in both 2017 and 2018. Salah won it last year, but Mane was able to beat him out this time around.
With so many stars on Liverpool, it's easy to see why they won the Champions League last year and are favorites to win it once again this season. Mane will be crucial to all the success they have this spring, there's no doubt about that.
