With Game 1 of the postseason set for Tuesday, there are going to be countless eyes on the Wild Card teams. However, keep in mind that the Dodgers hold the top odds to win the World Series. That's right, Shohei Ohtani and Co. are the favorites to capture the glory. Will they be able to get the job done?
Shohei Ohtani is ready to make his dreams come true with LA
Ohtani is no question one of the best players in the bigs, but prior to joining the Dodgers, he was with the Angels and they never made it to the playoffs. That's a shocking fact, especially considering the team also had Mike Trout.
Now, Ohtani, who belted 54 homers this season with 130 RBI in the regular season, is focused on going all the way with his new squad. The Dodgers are built to go on a deep run this year and the pressure is on for them to deliver. Having said that, manager Dave Roberts knows that Ohtani will be able to answer the call for this team.
“This is something that I know Shohei’s dreamed about ever since he was a young kid," Roberts said in a recent interview. "Now he’s living it, right now in real time. He’s put on a show in the last couple weeks. What a year he’s having. We’re going to ride that horse, that thoroughbred to the championship.”
With the Dodgers winning the NL West and posting the best record in the bigs, they hold the No. 1 seed in the NL and home-field advantage throughout the entirety of the playoffs - yeah, that's huge for them. Keep an eye on Ohtani and LA for what should be a memorable stretch of games for them.
Will the New York Yankees or Phillies be able to get back to the World Series?
Elsewhere, don't forget about the other top contenders out there, especially the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies. With the Yankees, their lineup is of course highlighted by Juan Soto, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.
Judge played at an MVP level once again in '24, smashing 58 homers and adding 144 RBI. He's truly unreal to watch, while Soto has been sensational in his first season in the Bronx.
Over in the NL, the Phillies are ready to do what they do best in October: put on a show for the local, passionate fans. It all begins with Bryce Harper, who is one of the most exciting players in the bigs. Philly is always a threat to make a splash in the playoffs and this fall will be no different.
